Markets guide

Football prediction markets, explained

A market is simply a question a match can answer: who wins, how many goals, do both teams score? This guide explains every major market in plain words. FP Football Predictions publishes daily tips on the score-based markets — the ones an honest record can settle automatically from the final score — and marks them below.

Match result markets

The oldest question in football: who wins? These markets settle on the final result.

In our daily tips: home win, draw, away win, double chance.

Match result
home win, draw or away win at full time.
Double chance
two outcomes in one pick: home or draw, draw or away, or either team to win.
Win (draw void)
a win pick where a draw cancels the prediction instead of losing it.
To qualify
which team goes through to the next round, however the tie is decided.
Half-time result
the leader at the break.
Half-time / full-time
the leader at the break and the winner at the end, as one pick.
Winning margin
by how many goals the winner wins.
Result after extra time
the outcome once the extra 30 minutes are played.
Penalty shootout winner
who holds their nerve from the spot.

Goals markets

Predictions about how many goals a match produces, regardless of who scores them.

In our daily tips: over/under from 0.5 to 4.5 goals, goal bands, team to score.

Over/under 0.5–4.5
whether the total goal count clears a line such as 1.5 or 2.5.
Asian goal totals
quarter-goal lines (over 2.25) that split a prediction across two lines.
Team total goals
an over/under line for one team only.
First-half goals
the goal count before the break.
Second-half goals
the goal count after it.
Goal bands
the total lands inside a range, such as 2–3 goals.
Exact total goals
the precise number of goals in the match.
Correct score
the exact final scoreline.
Team to score in both halves
one team finds the net before and after the break.
Highest-scoring half
which 45 minutes produce more goals.

Both teams to score

The “GG” family: do both sides find the net?

In our daily tips: GG, NG, and GG combined with over 2.5 goals or a winner.

Both teams to score (GG)
both sides score at least once.
Not both to score (NG)
at least one side keeps a clean sheet.
GG and match result
both score and your pick wins.
GG and over/under
both score and the total clears (or stays under) a goals line.
Both score in both halves
both sides score in each half — rare and spectacular.

Handicap markets

A virtual head start evens up a mismatch: the favourite must overcome it, the underdog defends it.

European handicap
whole-goal head start; a draw on the adjusted score is its own outcome.
Asian handicap
half- and quarter-goal lines with no draw outcome.
Three-way handicap
home, draw or away on the adjusted score.
Half handicaps
the same idea applied to one half only.
Corner or card handicap
head starts counted in corners or cards instead of goals.

Goal timing markets

Not just how many goals — when they arrive and who delivers them.

First / last / anytime scorer
which player opens, closes or simply gets on the scoresheet.
Next scorer
who scores the next goal, picked while the match runs.
Team to score first or last
which side opens or closes the scoring.
First goal time
the window in which the opener lands.
Goal in each half
at least one goal both before and after the break.
Goal in a time interval
a goal inside a set window, such as the first 10 minutes.
No goal
the brave call: 0-0.

Corners markets

Pressure measured in flags: teams that attack down the wings pile up corners.

Total corners over/under
the combined corner count against a line.
Team corners
one side’s corner count.
Half corners
corners before or after the break.
Race to 3, 5, 7 or 10
which team reaches a corner count first.
First or last corner
who earns the opening or closing flag.
Exact corners / most corners
the precise count, or simply which side earns more.

Cards and discipline

For the matches where the story is tackles, tempers and the referee’s pocket.

Total cards over/under
the combined booking count against a line.
Red card shown
yes or no: does anyone walk?
Player carded / sent off
a named player goes in the book, or worse.
First player booked
who the referee cautions first.
Team cards / most cards
one side’s count, or which side collects more.
Penalty awarded
yes or no: a spot kick in the match.

Player performance markets

Predictions about a single player’s afternoon, from goals to tackles.

Player to score or assist
a goal contribution of either kind.
Player shots / shots on target
how often a player lets fly, and how accurately.
Player passes, tackles, fouls
volume stats for midfield engines and enforcers.
Player to be booked
a named player sees yellow.
Goalkeeper saves
how busy the keeper will be.
Scorer plus correct score
a named scorer and the exact final score, in one pick.

Team performance markets

Which side dominates the stat sheet, beyond the scoreline.

In our daily tips: win to nil.

Clean sheet
a team concedes nothing.
Win to nil
win the match and concede nothing.
Most possession / shots / shots on target
who controls the ball and creates more.
Most fouls, offsides, throw-ins, free kicks
the grittier side of domination.
To hit the woodwork
post or bar rattled.
To miss a penalty
a spot kick goes begging.

Half and period markets

Whole-match markets, shrunk to 45 minutes.

Half-time result / double chance
the leader at the break, or two outcomes covered.
Half over/under and GG
goals lines and both-to-score inside one half.
Second-half result
who wins the half after the break, ignoring the first.
Half-time correct score
the exact score at the break.
Team to win either half
a team takes at least one of the two halves.
Most goals in a half
which half out-scores the other.

Combination markets

Two or three calls on the same match rolled into one prediction — bolder, and harder to land.

In our daily tips: winner + GG, winner + goals line, GG + over 2.5.

Result and over/under
the winner plus a total-goals line.
Result and GG
the winner plus both teams scoring.
Double chance and goals
two results covered plus a goals line.
Correct score and GG
the exact score with both sides on the scoresheet.
Same-match combinations
custom multi-part predictions built from one fixture.

Tournament and long-term markets

Season-long calls that settle in May, not at full time.

League or tournament winner
who lifts the trophy.
Top goalscorer / top assists
the season’s sharpest finisher or creator.
Top-four finish
a place among the elite — and the football that comes with it.
Promotion and relegation
who climbs a division, who drops.
To reach the final / qualify from a group
how deep a run goes.
